Daniela Medeiros is a Production Designer, Art Director and Set Designer working in the film and television industry. Born and raised in Brazil, Daniela has a deep-rooted passion for art, storytelling and the creation of fantastical worlds.
She has a double-degree – one in Architecture from the PUC-PR, and one in Design from UTFPR both in Brazil. During her studies she also deepened her knowledge through two international study experiences: a semester at the renowned architecture school ETSAM in Madrid, Spain and a year at IADE in Lisbon, Portugal.
After graduating she got her first opportunities to work as a Production Designer in Brazil, signing the short film CRIME IDIOMÁTICO for the Globo affiliated channel RPC-TV, among other student projects. After these experiences she decided to further her studies in Production Design and applied to Master of Fine Arts in Production Design at the American Film Institute, in Los Angeles, CA, where she was awarded a scholarship and graduated in 2015.
With her multi-discipline background and the MFA in Production Design, she strives to merge these artforms to create magical environments, constantly trying to push the boundaries of her creativity and seeking new challenges.
Her thesis projects from AFI both did extremely well in the Festivals run, ALL THESE VOICES winning many awards including a Student Academy Award in 2015 as well as a Best Production Design award at the 24FPS International Film Festival; and ICEBOX winning the Grand Jury Prize at AFI Fest 2016 and being shortlisted by the Academy Awards for Best Short Film in 2017.
Immediately after graduating AFI, Daniela was selected to be part of the Production Design Initiative at the Art Directors Guild and soon later started working as a Set Designer on large-budget productions such as THOR: RAGNAROK in Australia, GODZILLA – KING OF MONSTERS and more recently the Production Design Academy Award winner MANK and GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3, in which Daniela was the main set designer for the largest set of her career so far, the city of Knowhere and the Guardians Apartment Building. Two latest releases of her work have been the Francis Ford Coppola film, MEGALOPOLIS and TWISTERS, directed by Lee Isaac Chung. Daniela has also recently worked on the next SUPERMAN, set to release in 2025.
As a Production Designer, she has also recently made her mark on the thriller DETAINED and the horror film SATANIC HISPANICS, further challenging her versatility and ability to bring imaginative visions to life.
Her love for studying, traveling and exploring new places and cultures and her international experiences greatly influences her work, increasingly providing her with one of the things she values most - a growing perspective on cultures and global aesthetics.
Passionate about the collaborative nature of this magical industry, Daniela cherishes the invaluable experience of learning from exceptionally talented and diverse artists who inspire her to keep on imagining and creating.
